Congrats Jim Rice...Again.

The Red Sox Wednesday announced plans to retire Hall of Famer Jim Rice’s uniform No. 14 as a tribute to his exceptional career in a Red Sox uniform and in honor of his induction into The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. The ceremony will take place prior to the Red Sox-A's game at Fenway Park on Tuesday.
It will be the seventh number to be retired by the franchise, joining Bobby Doerr (1), Joe Cronin (4), Johnny Pesky (6), Carl Yastrzemski (8), Ted Williams (9), and Carlton Fisk (27). The number of Jackie Robinson (42) has been retired by all teams in Major League Baseball.

You Go, Lugo.

Finally, he's gone! The man that was said to be the great hope at shortstop. The man that the Sox have been looking for since Nomie left town. The man we paid an armand a leg for and then he pretty much injured his arm, leg, wrist, hand, back, and so on and so fourth! Julie Lugo, we hardly knew you! I think Theo is finally seeing that Lugo wasnt the best man to drop $40Mil on. We would have been better keeping Edgar "Rent-a-wreck" Rentaria or even Alex Gonzalez (the man can play defense!!).

Happy to see Lugo gone. Wish it was sooner...I'm just happy we got more than just a "plyer to be named later" or "cash considerations". We actually got a player thats somewhat known. Outfielder Chris Duncan, welcome to the Red Sox, the Pawtucket Red Sox. The big boys up north will see you in September when rosters expand!

Everyone wants the Baby!!

According to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports, the Nets are among the teams interested in Celtics' restricted free-agent forward Glen Davis. The Nets still have their mid-level exception available. Spears reports that three different teams have been rebuffed in attempts to work a sign-and-trade with the Celtics for Davis. The report also said that the Celtics proposed a trade of Davis, Gabe Pruitt and J.R. Giddens to the Pistons for Jason Maxiell and a first-round pick, but that Detroit turned down the offer.

I dont see why the C's would even consider giving up Giddens, Pruitt and Davis for a schlump like Maxiell and a lousy 1st round pick. Detriot's gonna be good this year, so it's not like they are going to have a nasty pick in round #1.
Big Baby did one hell of a job this past season by playing his ass off and getting all these teams interested in him. Spurs, Magic, Cavs (at one point), Hornets, Pistons and now the Nets. I'd like to hang on to the young fella, but if we can get a big name or something, i'll give him up! Sorry big dogg.

Well, he was off to a good start...

The Red Sox will place Tim Wakefield on the disabled list with a lower back strain. In his place, Clay Buchholz will be recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket and will start Wednesday's game against the Rangers. Wakefield tweaked his back in a recent side session. He has been placed on the D.L. retroactive to July 18. Red Sox manager Terry Francona told reporters that the injury is not to the knuckleballer's shoulder.
Buchholz, who earned the win in the first Red Sox game of the second half, will be pitching with four days of rest. He allowed one run in 5.2 innings against the Blue Jays on Friday.

Question?!?!

Is it a good thing to have the Winter Classic at America's most beloved ballpark, Fenway Park?!

No Love...

The Rev's NEVER get any love! But here in The W.O.D., they get a lot of it. The Revs were just bounced out of the CONCACAF Tournement and are off to a slow start after a heartbreaking loss. Today they beat Chivas USA 2-0.
The Revs are still not at full strength. Still with a battered and bruised Taylor Twellman and a dingned up Steve Rolston, its tough to watch this team struggle after being so used to them soaring to the MLS Cup 3 out of the last 4 years! Sucks to have come up empty handed all 3 times, but hey, Boston is still title town and the Rev's should be mentioned with the best!

Sox Sunday

What's the deal with Jon Lester?! Yes, Toronto had, in my opinion the soon to be memeber of the Boston Red Sox, on their mound, but still, you would think the Sox would put up more than one run!! Pedy & Youk both went 2-4 and the slumping Jason Bay was 0-4. Think the pressure of being unsigned for next year is getting to him already?!
End result, Sox lose to Toronto Blue Jays 3-1. Halliday, complete game.

SHEEED!!

"...and now at forward for the Boston Celtics, number 30, Rasheed Wallace...!!!" Sounds weird doesnt it? It's about time the Celtics made move! JEEEEZUS! Cleveland got Shaq, Orlando landed Vince Carter, even Washington showed up by picked up Randy Foye & Mike Miller! Clearly the east has completley taken over the NBA. Yeah, the west still has the Lakers and San Antonio, but it seems that ever since the C's grabbed KG two-years ago, the other teams in our conference has stepped up their game.

Rasheed is going to be something special to watch over the next three seasons. Although it is said that he will be coming off the bench, I can handle that. Who would have though that one of our enemies of years past is now wearing Celtic green!

The NBA season cannot come soon enough!

For the Kids!!

Today, I spent the day at Fenway Park working and hangning out with the awesome kids at the Jimmy Fund/Dana Farber Cancer Institute. It was Fantasty Day @ Fenway Park. Kids were able to play on the field, throw pitches with a speed gun, play whiffle ball, Wii, and also got to "call the play" with myself and the rest of the WEEI Waterboys & Watergirls!

The Jimmy Fund is such a great organization and I love helping them out! Of course, all the proceeds from today went straight to them!

Don't forget to tune into Sports Radio WEEI & NESN on Aug 27h & 28th for the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon!! Any donation would be much appreciated!

Drake's So Far Gone Is The Hottest Mixtape Of 2009 (So Far)

Midseason Salute: Drake's So Far Gone

What can we say about So Far Gone that hasn't already been written in this very section? The mixtape was artistically dope and had out-of-control buzz, and we are stamping it as the mixtape of 2009 so far based on the impact and quality. Let the debates begin, but you'll have a difficult time saying what other tape reached the 'hood, the 'burbs and the industry. A universal thumbs-up. Let's hope the album lives up to the hype.
"I am honored by the accolade given to me by Mixtape Daily and just by all the stuff that's going on," Drake said about getting the nod. "I feel like I just spent a lot of years so in tune with music that I really love. Whether it be R&B, whether it be jazz, whether it be rap, whatever. I think So Far Gone was me finding myself as a person and then finding a way to balance all these things that I love and figuring out truly what it is that I'm good at. I think once you find a rhythm or a formula as an artist, it starts to connect with people. You know, people are like, 'OK, he's doing his thing.' That's important to do your thing. You can't be doing what so-and-so is doing or do something that doesn't fit you. ... The best part about finding that rhythm was just being honest. Honesty, you know, rapping about my life and things that occur on a daily basis. So when I draw inspiration, I really can draw from my life, not go make something up or hear someone else's story.
"I can just live and then write," he continued. "And so that really makes my musical process very easy and gratifying. It's been dope. So for people to respond to that mixtape was a great thing."
With all the accolades he's raked in from the mixtape, has Drizzy ever had second thoughts about giving the tape out for free instead of selling it?
"I think that's what we're working on right now," he said. " 'Best I Ever Had' is doing amazing on iTunes. But [the mixtape] was an important moment for me. So no, I don't ever look at it and say, 'I wish that was an album.' It was important that it was a mixtape, 'cause if it was an album, I don't know if it would've had the same impact. I think the fact that I gave that for free, it was kind of brazen, like, 'What? What do you have in your collection, in your catalog, to be able to throw this out there?' And just while we were creating it, it was all of us, you know? Me, 40, Oliver and everyone else involved. It was us, just having fun in a stress-free environment, because we knew we were going to give it away. So I am hoping to bring that same energy to the album. It's harder, because you know that it's your album. You know people have to go buy it and they have to support it or else you're not going to live up to the expectations, but hopefully we can channel that same energy into this project."

Celtics: Breaking News

Report: Daniels commits to Celtics
By: Jessica Camerato

Yahoo! Sports has reported small forward Marquis Daniels has committed to the Boston Celtics. According to Yahoo!, Daniels will either sign a $1.9 million biannual exception or be dealt to the Celtics in a sign-and-trade with the Indiana Pacers.

Post All-Star Break

So here we are again. A few days after the MLB All-Star break. I'm still bitter about Tim Wakefield not being able to participate! F U Joe Maddon! Anywhoo, the BoSox are starting off to a 1-1 record after the "big star game". Am I surprised? NOPE! Every year its the same thing. We have a GREAT start to the season, All-Star break comes around and then we start to head down that slippery slope. Hopefully this year will be different. It's nice to have a small lead in the AL East to start, but I guess we'll see how it goes...!

With the trade deadline right around the corner (July 31st), maybe we'll pick up a worth shortstop? What do you think the Red Sox need to do to come out on top of the AL East? Who do you think they should be going after at the trade deadline?
